Oil-free centrifugal chillers have been on the market for more than a decade. Some chilled water plants have these chillers installed alongside other conventional, oil-lubricated centrifugal chillers, while other installations use only oil-free. During that time, manufacturers, owners and operators have accumulated knowledge and experience leading people to ask questions about performance, reliability, service, maintenance, and delivered efficiency. State of the Industry in Oil-Free Compressors: What’s Oil Really Got to Do with It? Includes a discussion of compressor technology aimed to compare and contrast design, operating and maintenance issues of conventional versus oil-free centrifugal chillers in a real-world perspective.
